How to Set Up IPTV on Your Smart TV

June 18, 2026 8 min read

Setting up IPTV on a smart TV is one of the most common questions we get from new subscribers. The good news: it takes less than ten minutes on most Samsung and LG televisions, and you do not need any extra hardware. This guide walks you through every step for both platforms, from downloading the right app to entering your subscription credentials and troubleshooting the most common issues.

Whether you just bought a new Samsung QLED or you have had your LG OLED for a few years, the process is straightforward. By the end of this article, you will be watching live channels in HD or 4K on the biggest screen in your house.

What You Need Before You Start

Before you touch the remote, make sure you have three things ready. Missing any of these will slow you down or stop the setup entirely.

If you do not have an IPTV subscription yet, you can start a free 24-hour trial to get your credentials and follow along with this guide in real time.

Setting Up IPTV on Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS)

Samsung smart TVs run Tizen OS, which has its own app store. Two apps work particularly well for IPTV: Smart IPTV (SIPTV) and IPTV Smarters Pro. We will cover both methods so you can choose whichever you prefer.

Method 1: Smart IPTV (SIPTV)

Smart IPTV is one of the most popular IPTV players for Samsung TVs. It has a clean interface, supports EPG (electronic program guide), and handles large playlists without slowing down.

Step 1: Install Smart IPTV

Press the Home button on your Samsung remote. Navigate to the Apps section. Use the search function to find "Smart IPTV." Select the app and click Install. Once installed, open the app and note the MAC address displayed on the screen — you will need this in the next step.

Step 2: Upload Your Playlist

On a computer or phone, open a browser and go to siptv.app/mylist. Enter the MAC address from your TV screen. Paste your M3U URL into the playlist URL field. If your provider gave you an Xtream Codes login instead, convert it to an M3U format: http://server:port/get.php?username=YOUR_USER&password=YOUR_PASS&type=m3u_plus. Click Send. The website will confirm that your playlist has been added.

Step 3: Load Channels on Your TV

Go back to your Samsung TV. Close the Smart IPTV app completely and reopen it. The app will load your channel list from the server. Depending on the size of your playlist (IPTV Subscribe has over 24,000 channels), this may take 30 to 60 seconds on the first load. After that, channels load almost instantly.

Step 4: Enable EPG (Optional but Recommended)

Back on the siptv.app website, you can also add an EPG URL. Your IPTV provider typically supplies this — it is a URL ending in .xml or .xml.gz. Adding the EPG lets you see program names, descriptions, and schedules directly in the app, just like a traditional cable TV guide.

Method 2: IPTV Smarters Pro on Samsung

IPTV Smarters Pro offers a more modern interface with categories, favorites, catch-up TV, and a built-in EPG. It works especially well with Xtream Codes credentials.

Step 1: Download IPTV Smarters

Open the Samsung App Store from the home screen. Search for "IPTV Smarters" or "Smarters Player." Install the app. Some Samsung TV models may show it as "Smarters Player Lite" — both versions work the same way for our purposes.

Step 2: Add Your Subscription

Open IPTV Smarters. Choose "Login with Xtream Codes API" if you have a server URL, username, and password (the most common format). Enter your details: the server URL goes in the first field, then your username and password. Give it any name you like, such as "My IPTV." Tap Add User.

Step 3: Start Watching

The app will connect to the server and load your channel categories: Live TV, Movies, Series, and Catch-Up. Select Live TV to browse channels by category (Sports, Entertainment, News, Kids, etc.). Tap any channel to start streaming. Use the remote's arrow keys to bring up the mini-guide or switch channels.

Setting Up IPTV on LG Smart TV (WebOS)

LG smart TVs run WebOS, which also has a dedicated app store. The two best IPTV apps for LG are SS IPTV and IPTV Smarters Pro. Both are free to download and easy to configure.

Method 1: SS IPTV

SS IPTV (Simple Smart IPTV) is a well-established app that handles large playlists smoothly. It is available directly in the LG Content Store.

Step 1: Install SS IPTV

Press the Home button on your LG remote to open the launcher bar. Navigate to the LG Content Store. Search for "SS IPTV" and install it. Open the app once installation is complete.

Step 2: Get Your Connection Code

In SS IPTV, go to Settings (the gear icon). Select "Get Code" under the External Playlists section. A one-time code will appear on screen — write it down or take a photo. This code is valid for a limited time, so proceed to the next step quickly.

Step 3: Upload Your Playlist

On your computer or phone, visit ss-iptv.com/users/playlist. Enter the code from your TV. Paste your M3U URL in the playlist field and click Add. The playlist will be linked to your TV.

Step 4: Refresh and Watch

Return to the SS IPTV app on your LG TV. Go back to the main screen and you should see your playlist appear. If it does not show immediately, restart the app. Your channels will now be available, organized by the categories defined in your playlist.

Method 2: IPTV Smarters Pro on LG

Just like on Samsung, IPTV Smarters Pro is available for LG WebOS TVs and provides a polished, user-friendly experience.

Step 1: Install from LG Content Store

Open the LG Content Store from your home screen. Search for "IPTV Smarters" and install the app. Launch it after installation.

Step 2: Enter Your Credentials

Select "Login with Xtream Codes API" on the login screen. Enter the server URL, username, and password provided by your IPTV service. Tap Add User to connect.

Step 3: Browse and Watch

Once connected, you will see the main dashboard with Live TV, Movies, Series, and Catch-Up sections. Navigate to Live TV to see all available channels sorted by country and category. The built-in EPG shows you what is currently playing and what is coming up next.

Which App Should You Choose?

Both Smart IPTV/SS IPTV and IPTV Smarters work well, but they suit different preferences:

If your IPTV provider gives you Xtream Codes login credentials (which IPTV Subscribe does), IPTV Smarters Pro is usually the better choice because it takes full advantage of the Xtream Codes API to give you a complete TV experience.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even with a simple setup, you might run into a few hiccups. Here are the most common problems and how to fix them quickly.

Channels Not Loading or Showing "No Playlist"

This usually means the playlist URL was entered incorrectly. Double-check for typos, extra spaces, or missing characters in the URL. If you are using Xtream Codes, verify that the server URL includes the port number (for example, http://server.com:8080). Also confirm your subscription is active — an expired trial or lapsed subscription will prevent channels from loading.

Buffering or Freezing During Playback

Buffering is almost always an internet speed issue. Run a speed test on your TV or phone while connected to the same network. If you are getting less than 15 Mbps, try moving closer to your router, switching to a 5GHz Wi-Fi band, or connecting your TV directly with an Ethernet cable. If your speed is fine but you still experience buffering, try changing the video player within the app (most IPTV apps let you switch between built-in and external players in settings).

App Not Available in the Store

Some IPTV apps may not be available in every region's app store. If you cannot find Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters in your store, try changing your TV's region settings (usually found under System > General > Region). Alternatively, you can sideload apps on Samsung TVs using a USB drive or the developer mode, though this requires a few extra steps.

Black Screen with Audio Only

This happens when the channel's video codec is not supported by the TV's built-in player. In IPTV Smarters, go to Settings and change the player type from "Native" to "VLC" or vice versa. This resolves the issue for most channels. On Smart IPTV, try changing the stream format from HLS to MPEG-TS or the other way around.

EPG Not Showing Program Information

If the electronic program guide is blank, your EPG URL might not be loaded yet. Some providers update the EPG on a schedule (every 12 or 24 hours). Force a refresh in the app settings if available. Also verify that the EPG URL is correct and accessible — you can paste it into a browser to check if it downloads an XML file.
